The Association of Friends of Classical Art was founded in Basel in 1956. Its aim is to promote interest in Classical Archaeology in Switzerland. Since 1958, the Association has edited ANTIKE KUNST, an internationally reputed scholarly journal. It was instrumental as well in the creation of the Antikenmuseum Basel in 1966.

The Association offers lectures, guided visits to exhibitions, trips to Classical sites and other activities in various cities of Switzerland, and so helps to diffuse the latest results of research and excavations. Six regional groups are responsible for organizing the activities, in Basel, Berne-Bienne-Solothurn, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich.
